Sean P. Carey is an Associate in the Firm’s Employment Law and Litigation Departments.
Experience
Sean P. Carey focuses his practice on employment litigation and counseling. He has extensive experience defending employers in discrimination, whistleblower retaliation, and wage-and-hour claims in both New Jersey state and federal courts. Sean also advises private and public employers on compliance with workplace accommodation, wage-and-hour, and protected leave issues. In addition, he has conducted numerous workplace investigations into employee complaints of harassment and discrimination. Sean regularly represents employers in investigations initiated by governmental agencies, including the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
Before joining Cole Schotz, Sean was an associate at a well-respected local firm, where he worked in the labor and employment department. He represented numerous public entities across the state and litigated cases on behalf of individual employees who had been subjected to unlawful harassment or wrongful termination. Sean also served as a judicial law clerk for the Hon. Anthony V. D’Elia in Hudson County Superior Court.
Sean graduated cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2020, where he was a member of the Interscholastic Moot Court Board. During law school, he worked as a law clerk at a national law firm in New Jersey. Sean received the Dean’s Law Scholarship and was a semi-finalist in the 2020 Bryant-Moore Moot Court Competition at Howard University School of Law. He earned a combined degree in Economics and Political Science from Union College, where he was both a member and captain of the football team, graduating in 2017.
