Cole Schotz Strengthens National Bankruptcy Practice with Veteran Hire in New York
Cole Schotz P.C. is pleased to announce Seth Van Aalten has joined the firm’s New York office as a member of its nationally recognized Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring practice. Mr. Van Aalten, a veteran bankruptcy and restructuring lawyer who has worked across a range of industries, joined the firm from Cooley LLP.
“Seth is the epitome of a corporate restructuring lawyer,” said Michael D. Sirota, co-chair of the firm’s Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring Department. “He has earned a stellar reputation in all aspects of restructuring and is an industry leader in representing official committees of unsecured creditors. He will further strengthen our firm’s prominent restructuring practice and we are thrilled that he has decided to join our team.”
Mr. Van Aalten practices in the areas of corporate restructuring and creditors’ rights, where he regularly represents official committees of unsecured creditors and other parties in complex commercial Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. He works with clients in a broad range of industries, including retail, manufacturing, metals and mining, media, technology, health care, food and beverage, airlines and hotels.

Mr. Van Aalten has represented debtors, official committees and other parties throughout the country in prominent Chapter 11 cases including Radio Shack, Claire’s, Blockbuster, Mervyn’s, Charlotte Russe, Fusion Connect and Republic Metals. He also focuses his practice on the representation of independent directors in Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings.
Mr. Van Aalten, a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the International Council of Shopping Centers and the American Bar Association, is admitted to practice in U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He earned his J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
