Attorney Life
We all learn best through doing – hands on experience is how we train our attorneys to be valuable participants and contributors who can think outside of the box and explore problem-solving with different resources and tools that will be used throughout their careers.
As your future workplace family, you can count on us to deliver respect, authenticity, opportunity and thoughtfulness for your wellbeing
Authenticity & Respect
- We respect all individual voices and experiences.
- We provide you with an environment that embraces your most authentic self.
- We are honest, transparent and open – to achieve this we conduct surveys on employee satisfaction and have several established committees to oversee various aspects of employee training, development and welfare.
- While under our roof, you can expect to build relationships rooted in trust and empowered by collaboration.
Commitment & Growth
- Our firm history stretches over 90 years and includes growing from a two-man New Jersey firm to a legal institution with more than 300 professionals across six states.
- We grow alongside client needs, industry changes and marketplace trends, even when faced with economic and political storms.
- As we grow, our needs grow and our professionals help us to steer that growth – throughout the years, we have regularly introduced new practice teams and opened offices in new cities and new states to accommodate the practices of our attorneys.
- We equip all of our professionals with the resources and tools needed to excel in their careers.
- We provide mentorship opportunities to attorneys of all levels.
- We have a dedicated Chief of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer as well as a well-established Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, both working to continue the firm’s growth in areas related to DE&I.
Well-being & Thoughtfulness
- You can depend on us to always offer top-tier, comprehensive healthcare plans.
- Your happiness and welfare are a top priority – we want you to enjoy working with us and to succeed at what you do – being happy at your job is key to your longevity with the firm.
- We provide a Hybrid Work Schedule (3 days in the office/2 days work from home) for all attorneys and staff whose job functions can be performed off premises and will consider other alternative work arrangements on a case-by-case basis.
- We completely embrace full-body wellbeing – we create opportunities for community and connection by scheduling regular in-person and virtual events, we have implemented the employee assistance program Guide + Thrive, and provide additional resources on mindfulness such as meditations and yoga classes.
Appreciation
- We reward hard work. Plain and simple. So much so, that our meritocracy is a distinct differentiator between us and other employers. Our firm is known for high-retention rates amongst attorneys and staff alike. Many of our partners have spent their entire careers at Cole Schotz. The same goes for many of our Chiefs and Senior Management. In fact, several of our Chiefs began in entry-level positions and now oversee entire departments.
- Our management doesn’t pretend to know it all – they place enormous amounts of trust and respect into their people and turn to them for guidance and input.
- We enjoy spoiling our employees with fun events, food and gifting.
- And, it goes without saying, we provide competitive compensation and benefits packages.
Here’s what we give You
Hands-on experience for junior associates – you are not coming here to just do doc review
We all learn best through doing – hands on experience is how we train our attorneys to be valuable participants and contributors who can think outside of the box and explore problem-solving with different resources and tools that will be used throughout their careers.
This approach never stops – even our most senior members can enhance their skills through collaboration and shared wisdom of their colleagues and the firm.
We realize that mentorship is important at all levels – from the most junior to the most seasoned of attorneys. For this reason, every attorney is paired with a peer. The goal of our mentorship program is to:
- Provide support for associates and laterals as they navigate their new firm environment.
- Promote manageable work life balance at each stage of your career.
- Be a resource for work assignments.
- Ensure the overall wellbeing for each of our attorneys.
Growth opportunities for all – you will not just succeed, you will be given the opportunity to thrive
Throughout Cole Schotz’s history, we have been in a state of growth and our professionals are both influential and instrumental in pushing the firm forward with new offices in new states, launching and expanding our practice offerings, implementing new initiatives, and utilizing cutting-edge resources. Many stories tied to our evolution begin with individuals sharing a vision, developing a plan of action and collaborating with colleagues to see it through.

Committee
Management Advisory Committee
At Cole Schotz each voice is empowered, and every perspective is appreciated. Our leadership taps into the insight of our more junior attorneys by drawing on guidance from the Management Advisory Committee. Comprised of a rotating group of non-equity attorneys, the committee serves as advocates on behalf of their peers, bringing various issues to the attention of the firm’s management. The Management Advisory Committee discusses foundational topics including firm structure, operations, strategic planning and governance. Participating on the committee offers valuable experience and training in leadership.
