Cole Schotz P.C. is pleased to announce Florida State University law student Yamilet E. Estrella as the recipient of the firm’s 2022 Diversity Scholarship.

Each year, Cole Schotz recognizes the achievements of a rising second-year, full-time law student by presenting a one-time $5,000 scholarship. Candidates are considered based on their demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession, academic achievement, and involvement in community services.

Ms. Estrella was inspired to pursue a law degree after experiencing firsthand the challenges of immigrating to the United States when she moved from the Dominican Republic at a young age. She developed a desire to represent those facing the same challenges she once did by leveraging an education in law to advance progress, assure constitutional safeguards and protect against government overreach. In her current role with a business immigration law firm, Ms. Estrella assists in the preparation, documentation and filing of non-immigrant and immigrant visa applications to help global professionals and their families legally live and work in the United States.

Ms. Estrella graduated from Barry University with a bachelor’s degree in pre-law and is earning her JD from Florida State University College of Law.

“Yamilet’s personal experience and proven commitment to underserved communities makes her an excellent candidate for this award,” said James Lewis, Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer at Cole Schotz. “She is deeply committed to immigration law and has a passion for putting her knowledge to work, including as a volunteer for organizations such as Americans for Immigrant Justice and the Florida Immigrant Coalition.”

Cole Schotz is committed to the advancement of diversity in the legal profession. In addition to the Cole Schotz Diversity Scholarship, the firm also works with the New Jersey Law Firm Group, a non-profit corporation made up of law firms, law schools, and public agencies, to promote inclusiveness and diversity in the legal profession.
