Nationally recognized trial lawyer Jeff Saltman has a proven track record of success in intellectual property litigation. Since 2008, he has played a key role in five successful patent jury trials and, since 2012, has secured victories in seven Federal Circuit appeals.
EXPRERIENCE
Jeff represents both plaintiffs and defendants at trial, ranging from one of the largest companies in the world to smaller businesses engaged in high-stakes, “bet-the-business” litigation.
His practice encompasses all aspects of litigation, having led litigation from start to finish. He has examined fact and expert witnesses on both direct and cross-examination at trial. Jeff has also played a pivotal role in shaping case strategy, collaborating closely with in-house counsel and key decision-makers to develop and execute winning legal strategies. From day one of a case, Jeff focuses on preparing for trial and aligning litigation strategy with his clients’ overarching business objectives.
Jeff’s extensive experience includes drafting initial filings, crafting discovery plans, preparing winning briefs, and arguing dispositive motions, Daubert motions, and pretrial and discovery issues in federal court. Over the course of his career, he has taken and defended more than 100 depositions, including those of fact witnesses, expert witnesses, corporate representatives, and C-suite executives. This hands-on experience has given Jeff unique insight into his clients’ businesses and the challenges they face.
Jeff has litigated cases nationwide, including in Texas, California, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington, Iowa, the District of Columbia, New York, and Virginia. He also resolved an ongoing dispute in Düsseldorf, Germany. His litigation experience spans a wide range of technologies and industries, including 5G technology, standard essential patents (SEPs), complex software services, aircraft engine designs, routers, switches, access points, camera image sensors, diesel engine valves, and camera lens technology.
Beyond litigation, Jeff has helped clients achieve favorable case resolutions, often leading the negotiating and drafting of licenses, patent acquisitions, and settlement agreements. Clients rely on his expertise to ensure agreements position them for long-term success while mitigating potential future disputes. He has participated in numerous mediations across the country, including an intensive one-day session that successfully resolved a case after 19 hours of negotiation.
PASSIONS
Outside of his legal practice, Jeff enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, two kids, and golden retriever. As a Washington, D.C. area native, he is a devoted fan of all D.C. sports teams—despite their often unpredictable performances.
