Veteran IP Attorney Brian A. Carpenter Joins Cole Schotz in Dallas

Cole Schotz P.C. is pleased to announce that veteran litigator Brian A. Carpenter has joined the firm’s Dallas office as a member. Mr. Carpenter focuses his practice on patent litigation, commercial litigation, and trials before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeals Board. 

“Brian is an excellent attorney with a track record of advising clients, including household-name companies, on their most complex intellectual property matters,” said Gary Sorden, a Dallas-based member at Cole Schotz and co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice. “His technical knowledge and trial experience make him a significant asset to our team and our clients.”

Mr. Carpenter represents clients in intellectual property litigation as well as commercial disputes involving breach of contract, antitrust, trade secret, unfair competition and other business torts. He has appeared in at least four hundred lawsuits most of which were patent cases, and has served as trial counsel in many patent cases in jurisdictions throughout the country.  He has also argued cases before the Federal and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeal.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Carpenter has developed deep knowledge of sophisticated technologies including computer chips and architectures, semiconductor manufacturing, networking devices and protocols, telecommunications systems and data storage. Mr. Carpenter is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional through the International Association of Privacy Professionals and advises clients on cybersecurity and privacy issues.

Mr. Carpenter joins the firm from Carstens & Cahoon, LLP, and his previous roles have included member at Buether Joe & Carpenter and shareholder at Greenberg Traurig. He is licensed to practice in Texas, Colorado, California and New York, as well as before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

He received his J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law and his B.S. in mechanical engineering summa cum laude from Texas A&M University.
